RV Garages for Sale

If you own an RV, you know how much it costs to keep one in good shape. Leaving it parked outside through sun, rain, and hail wears it down faster than most people expect. A metal RV garage gives your vehicle proper year-round protection and costs far less than what you’d spend on off-site storage over just a few years.

At American Metal Garages, our RV garages are fully enclosed steel structures built to fit your recreational vehicle. You choose the width, length, wall height, roof style, and door placement, and our experts will build it to your needs. Free delivery and installation included.

Popular Metal RV Garage Sizes

The size of the garage you need depends on the class of your RV or motorhome. If you have antennas or an AC unit on the roof, you may need to increase your garage door height above the minimums shown below.

Comparing popular metal RV garage sizes:
RV Class Garage Door Height Minimum Garage Size
Class A 14 ft 18 ft x 50 ft x 16 ft
Class B 12 ft 20 ft x 24 ft x 14 ft
Class B+ 12 ft 12 ft x 25 ft x 14 ft
Class C 14 ft 26 ft x 48 ft x 16 ft

These are minimum sizes. If your RV has slide-outs, add at least 4 feet to the width when they’re fully extended. If you want room to walk around the vehicle, store gear alongside it, or work on it inside the garage, size up.

Height, Width, and Length - What to Check Before You Order

  • Height is the most common ordering mistake on RV garages. Your brochure height is not the number to use. Measure with the AC unit on top, antennas raised, and any satellite or solar equipment in place. That’s your real clearance requirement. Add at least 1 foot above that for the leg height.
  • Width starts at 12 feet for basic coverage. An RV with slide-outs fully extended can need 18 feet or more. If you want space to walk alongside the RV, open compartments, or store gear, plan for 20 feet or wider.
  • Length– measure bumper to bumper and add 4 to 5 feet. You want room to open the rear compartments and walk around the back without stepping outside the building.
Not sure? Call us with your RV’s year, make, and model. We’ll tell you exactly what size to order.

RV Garage Features and Customization

When you order, you configure the building around your specific vehicle and property. Here’s what you decide-

A properly planned garage saves time, protects valuable equipment and gives you cleaner working space on your property.

Foundation and Site Preparation

A fully enclosed RV garage needs a proper concrete foundation. A building this size, fully enclosed and under wind load, needs to be anchored solidly, ground anchors are not appropriate for a structure of this type.

For most RV garages, a 4-inch reinforced concrete slab is sufficient. If you’re parking a heavy Class A motorhome, or if you want to store a second vehicle alongside the RV, 6 to 8 inches is more appropriate.
Your site needs to be level before our crew arrives. An uneven site causes alignment problems during installation and affects how the doors operate long-term. See our guide on Why Flat Ground Matters for what to check and prepare before install day.

Frequently Asked Questions About RV Garages

What's the difference between an RV garage and an RV carport?

An RV carport is an open structure, it keeps rain and sun off your vehicle, but the vehicle remains fully accessible from the outside. An RV garage is a fully enclosed building with four walls and a lockable roll-up door, keeping your RV and any stored gear secure from intruders.

How much does an RV garage cost?

Starting prices depend on size, wall height, and your location's wind and snow requirements. A basic 18x35 RV garage starts lower than a 20x50 Class A configuration with 16-foot walls. Call us with your dimensions and zip code for an exact quote.

How tall does my RV garage need to be?

Measure your RV's actual height with the AC unit and any roof equipment in place. Add at least 1 foot of clearance above that for your leg height. Most Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels need 14 to 16 feet. Class C motorhomes and travel trailers typically work at 12 to 13 feet. Give us your year, make, and model and we'll confirm the right size.

Can I add storage space alongside the RV?

Yes. A wider building gives you floor space alongside the vehicle for gear, tools, or a second vehicle. A lean-to addition is also an option. Plan for this when you order so we can account for it in the initial build.

Can I enclose my RV carport into a full garage later?

Yes, an RV carport can be enclosed later by adding walls and doors. However, the ability to do this depends on the original structure and local building requirements.
